Who did invented the penalty shoot-out?
One thing for sure, not the English. They must hate it with there bad record on quarter final penalty shoot-outs.
But how was a winner determent at the end of a football game, when there had to be ONE winner? Very simple, by throwing a coin! Yes, simple, short, effective, but for one referee just not fair to the game. So he started at the end of such a has to find at the end of a football game the penalty shoot-out. He did it in the lower football (soccer) league for a year, than Bayern Munchen officials allowed the penalty shoot-out, later Uefa and FIFA made it part of there rules.
So who is the person behind it? It is Karl Wald (age 90) from Germany, who came up with the idea in 1970.
Now that the English now, he should not travel to England in next weeks. He might be football (soccer) "enemy" number one for the English!
